Join a Cape Lookout ranger at the Old Beaufort Post Office and discover the history of four unique murals and the fascinating life story of the artist that created these national treasures. The murals include: the Mailboat “Orville G” to Cape Lookout, Wild sand ponies, Canadian geese used as decoys, and the Crissie Wright in 1886 winter storm. They were painted in 1939 by Simka Simkhovitch.
These paintings were commissioned by the United States government under President Roosevelt’s New Deal Federal Arts Program, which gave work to American artists during the Depression years from 1933-1943.
Free admission.
